memoirs
The controversy over James Frey and is alleged life story in A Million Little Pieces, seems to me to be a storm in a tea pot. It is over a week since his appearance on Larry King and Oprah's surprise call to the show and endorsement of his book (although it seemed qualified) but there continues to be copy in various newspapers around the world.
At the end of the day, he did nothing criminal. He did exercise poetic license, and probably made the mistake in live interviews to talk about the book as if it was his true life story.

I think a lot of the abuse Frey is taking is from writers who are envious of his financial success.
Couldn't agree more. In the meantime, sales are soaring. He mut be a happy man.
Who is James Fray?
James Frey is the author of A Million Little Pieces, a best seller in the states. He was interviewed by Oprah in October and the book was selected for Oprah's Book of the Month which cause sales to soar even higher. But smokinggun.com did an expose and discovered alot of what James Frey claims happened simply didn't. The media got all over it and last week on Larry King he admitted that he embellished certain things. It has sparked a discussion about memoirs and how truthful they need or should be.
What are people looking for? Seems to me that most everything comes out "embellished" nowadays. Truth in advertising is dead.
Sounds like someone's "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty". Fact may be stranger than fiction, but you can "arrange" fiction to be more exciting than life. Haven't read it, don't know anything about it.
